Our Story

Fava Joy was born from my yearning for simplicity and slower living. In 2023, I left my corporate job to reconnect with life’s simple joys - spending time with loved ones, prioritizing wellness, and savoring wholesome food. It wasn't until I started sharing foods from my Middle Eastern heritage that I discovered the popularity of my fava beans dishes. This inspired me to go deep on fava beans, experiment with traditional recipes and invent completely new ones, ultimately leading to the creation of Fava Joy.

Fava beans have an incredible yet under-appreciated profile: they're high in protein (28% more per calorie vs. chickpeas), low in calories (30% fewer calories & 77% less fat vs. chickpeas), and they're a natural source of l-dopa which has the potential to increase feel-good dopamine levels. Cherished since Ancient Egypt, these nutrient-dense beans not only taste great but are also great for the environment.

At Fava Joy, we’re passionate about all things fava beans and crafting craveworthy, nutritious foods powered by our favorite bean.  I invite you to join me in slowing down and savoring the joy of wholesome eating with Fava Joy.

FAQs

1. What are Fava Beans?

Fava Beans, also known as Broad Beans, are an ancient legume native to the Mediterranean that are widely consumed across the Middle East / North Africa and parts of Asia. They have a mild, nutty taste, making them a versatile food, and are naturally non-GMO. Known for their nutritional benefits, fava beans are an excellent and sustainable source of protein, fiber, and essential nutrients like iron and folate.

2. What is the shelf-life of Fava Joy products?

Because we use the freshest ingredients, our products are highly perishable and must be refrigerated. Enjoy Fava Joy within a week of opening for optimal flavor.

3. Are your products vegan?

Yes! Always 100% vegan.

4. Are Fava Joy products sustainable?

Yes! Fava beans are an environmentally friendly crop that requires minimal water and naturally enriches the soil through nitrogen fixation. This process reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers, which are a major source of carbon emissions, and enhances soil health, leading to better crop yields over time. Additionally, fava bean flowers promote biodiversity by attracting pollinators.

At Fava Joy, we are proud to sustainably package our products in recyclable glass jars that are non-toxic and help preserve the flavor and freshness of our foods.

5. Where can I buy Fava Joy?

Because we are a newly established brand run by a tiny (but mighty) team, Fava Joy is currently only available through our website in our home market of Los Angeles. Don't worry though, we have BIG aspirations and plan to come to a market near you. Subscribe for updates to stay in the loop! And if you're a Fava Joy lover who wants to help us expand, I'd love to hear from you at sarah@favajoy.com.

6. More questions? Have Feedback? Or just want to say hello?
